Editing the Scoundrels Glossary
To edit the
Scoundrels Glossary, you have to register with the
Scoundrels Wiki Site and log in. The instructions for this are on
ScoundrelsWiki
Once you are logged in, navigate to
ScoundrelsGlossary by clicking on the wiki name
ScoundrelsGlossary on the
ScoundrelsWiki page, or by going to
PageIndex and clicking on it there.
Go to the very bottom of the
ScoundrelsGlossary page, looking below the page window, and you will see the "
Edit page" command. Click on that. You will then see an editing window with a graphic interface.
Go to the place on the
ScoundrelsGlossary where you want to install the new word, and type in the word. Definition words should be capitalized, and the word "the" if used is also capitalized. A "The" before the word is not counted in the alphabetical order of the definition.
Put two asterisks before and after the word. This makes it bold. You can also accomplish this by highlighting the word and clicking on
B in the Wiki Edit toolbar at the top of the page.
To understand the following examples, you have to look at them in the editing window. Otherwise you will not see the asterisks and other formatting marks:
example:
Texas Twist.
A period and a space follow, then the definition. Please indicate if possible the origin of the word, e.g. "American Grifter Slang," "American Carnival," "English Grifter Slang," "Archaic French Slang," etc.
example:
Texas Twist. A complicated version of closed monte popular in Texas and the South. Also
Country Boy,
Texas Tornado.
After the definition you may want to include a note wiki page with further references or information and pictures.
To do this you create a wiki name, that is a two word name that has no spaces and both words capitalized. An example would be
CountryBoy or
TexasTornado.
Click on "
Store" and then go to the place where your new wikiname is shown, and simply click on it. This will create a new wiki page with the name you have chosen.
First put a return address on the top and bottom of the page. You can simply go to edit on this page, highlight the top lines above the page title "Return to
ScoundrelsGlossary" and then go to the new page and copy that as the first lines of the page. Place your title next, using five equal marks before and after the title to make it the largest font.
Then place your info and photos and click on "
Store" You have created a wiki page and placed a link to it. That's it!
Now you can format your link further by using the brackets keys.
TexasTwist can be shown as "
Note," for example, by putting two brackets in front,
TexasTwist, a space, the name for the new link (Note), and then two more brackets.
Note When anyone clicks on
Note, they will be sent to
TexasTwist.
To make the name of the link bold, you must put the two asterisks on either side of the brackets as in this example:
More
A hyperlink to another web site can be added to a Glossary definition or to the note page with the same format, two brackets before the url, a space and then the name of the link, then two more brackets. Two asterisks on either side of the brackets makes it bold:
